Experienced Reflexologist providing Reflexology for Wellbeing

Balancing sleep, hormones, fertility and wellness

What is Reflexology?

At Honeycomb Health Clinic we offer a range of alternative medicine and holistic therapies to promote wellness and improved health, one of these therapies includes Reflexology. Reflexology is a therapeutic practice that involves applying pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, and ears. These points correspond to different organs and systems in the body. Reflexology aims to reduce stress, enhance relaxation, and promote healing.

Our Reflexologist Allison, is fully qualified and experienced and specialises in helping with stress management, menopause, hormone balancing  as well as a being well versed in reiki and clinical therapies.

Reflexologists use maps of the feet, hands, and ears to identify the corresponding body parts. Here are some key points:

  • Feet: The toes correspond to the head, the ball of the foot relates to the chest, and the heel links to the lower back and intestines.
  • Hands: Reflex points are similar to those on the feet but are used less frequently.
  • Ears: Smaller reflex points that correspond to body organs and systems.

Benefits of Reflexology?

Stress Relief and Relaxation

One of the main benefits of reflexology is its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. When pressure is applied to the reflex points on the feet, it helps to stimulate the nervous system and release tension. This can help to promote a deep sense of relaxation, which in turn can help to improve sleep quality and reduce anxiety levels.

Boosts Immunity and Wellbeing

Reflexology boosts the immune system by stimulating the lymphatic system, helping remove toxins and waste, and fight infections with white blood cells. Targeting reflex points linked to the lymphatic system enhances the body’s natural detox process, strengthening immune health. Regular reflexology sessions can benefit conditions like chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, or lupus, relieving inflammation and pain.

Fertility and Conception

It promotes deep relaxation, maximising the chances of conception. Stress is a significant factor that affects fertility as chronic/ongoing stress causes the body to produce stress hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. These slow the production of reproductive hormones, making it harder to conceive. It helps to normalise the menstrual cycle and correct hormonal imbalances. By stimulating the reproductive organs, it synchronises ovulation and improves sperm production

Improved Digestion and Gut Health

Reflexology positively impacts digestion and gut healthby stimulating specific reflex points on the feet corresponding to organs in the digestive system. Pressure applied to these points regulates digestive processes, stimulates the gut, and restores balance. It helps relax digestive muscles and improve blood circulation, providing relief from common digestive issues like bloating and constipation.

Improved Sleep Quality

Reflexology improves sleep patternsby balancing the body’s sleep cycle. Reflexology regulates hormones like melatonin and cortisol by stimulating reflex points linked to the nervous system and endocrine glands, promoting regular sleep. It also reduces stress, aids insomnia, and improves sleep quality.

Improved Circulation and Healing

Another benefit of reflexology is that it can help to improve blood circulation throughout the body. This is because when pressure is applied to the reflex points, it helps to dilate the blood vessels and increase blood flow. This can help to promote healing and reduce inflammation throughout the body.

What to expect during a Reflexology Session?

  • Initial Consultation: Discuss your medical history and reasons for seeking reflexology.
  • Session: Relax in a reclining chair or on a massage table. The reflexologist will use various techniques to apply pressure to your feet, hands, or ears.
  • Post-Session: You may feel relaxed, energized, or even sleepy. Drink plenty of water to help flush out toxins.

Reflexologists use their thumbs, fingers, and hands to apply pressure to the reflex points. Sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes, with the client reclining comfortably. Techniques include:

  • Thumb Walking: Moving the thumb in a walking motion across the reflex points.
  • Rotating Pressure: Applying pressure in a circular motion.
  • Hook and Backup: Hooking the thumb around a reflex point and pulling back.
